Redken was built from the inspiration of a dynamic, entrepreneur and American actress, Paula Kent. Founded in 1960 through the sheer frustration that no one could explain why different products were irritating her hair and scalp, Paula set out to help millions of people who also wanted high performance products that were gentle. Together with hairdresser, Jheri Redding (thus the name "REDKEN") they began with three products and an intensive educational program designed to give hairdressers an understanding of the chemistry of hair and skin.
