Naturally Straight Hair
For naturally straight hair, once you have shampooed and conditioned with the correct
product (see our hair type section for further information) you should blast dry
with a nozzle attachment.
A wide tooth comb with a detangling spray such as 'Tigi S factor Papaya Protein
Spray' should be used, starting from the ends and working to the root. Point the
nozzle along the hair shaft away from the root, thus encouraging the cuticles to
lie flat, preventing flyaways and promoting sheen.
Thermally Straightened Hair
When using thermal straighteners such as 'GHD MkIV Irons' it is important to use
a thermal protective spray. All of the 'GHD Thermodynamics' products and sprays
contain both thermal and UV protection and the new 'Kerastase Thermique' provides
a protective heat barrier.
Damage can occur when using your iron on any damp hair because it is evaporating
essential moisture from each applied fibre. This will also lead to keeping the heat
on for a longer period which will also adversely harm your hair and this is NOT
recommended.
Effective Hair Straightening
For effective straightening your iron should enclose the hair with an even tension
(not a clasp) and should be passed down the section in one slow fluid movement.
If you maintain this method you will not have to reapply heat to the same section
again and again, which is the most common mistake and one which can ultimately lead
to damaged cuticles. This is particularly important for those with long hair.
